A BIT OF A BIO
Kip Davies: The bloke behind the songs, microphone, guitar, piano, racing wheel, paint brush or camera

AMG's own PR girl Catherine got assigned the task to see if she could get Kip to tell us a bit more about himself. It was like an episode of one of Kip's own crazy "The Hunt for the .. " series. Here's what she was able to get before she succumbed to the peaceful nature and atmosphere surrounding this elusive Aussie artist.

Kip Davies, back at home in country Tasmania

Your first name is actually Kieran isn't it? How did you get nick-named Kip?: Yes, and it's a good Irish name that most people can't spell, pronounce, and means I get bank statements addressed to "Ms.". It's not actually a worry to me. But I've always used my initials for things I do, my second name is Paul, so hence KP. The "i" just got added in there somewhere along the way. KP became KiP on my paintings, and that's about all there is to that story.

Whats your birth date? What's your star sign?: 21st March. The cusp of Pisces and Aries. Apparently I get a bit of both whatever them signs mean. Is that a good excuse for why I wouldn't mind buying another hot car?

I don't think you need an excuse. You have quite a thing for racing and motors already!: I simply believe that cars and bikes are people too. More people need to hug their cars. There's a lot of sad cars out there. Cars need love. I love cars.

So thats why you have a history of racing bikes and cars?: I cant distract you can I? You really want me to answer your questions seriously (chuckles). Ok, true, I have loved motor sport for many years, and enjoyed being lucky enough to chuck some darn good machines - and some total death traps - around some top race circuits or in legal road races. You race to live, not to die, and its that challenge of controlling the vehicle in split second timing and reflex that gives a sense of exhilaration; the battle of nerves within yourself, the freedom. I am rambling now aren't I?

You do seem to get carried away when motors are mentioned. So are you equally passionate about your music?: More so. Music is another way of painting. You take nothing but a feeling, an experience, or some urge for unknown reasons to share something sad, funny, memorable - whatever - and you rip it out of your guts in a bid to make it understandable by other people. To let them also share that feeling. Maybe to touch some part of their lives, and for a moment join with them in sharing some moment together. Music is very personal to me.

So you feel on a very personal level with your fans when you perform?: Fans? Its more friends, equals, people who give me the chance to do what I need to do. I don't like the idea of performing. If I touch someone, or they laugh, or dance, I feel moved. Its what its about. Connecting to people. I hope they feel they have got close to me through the music.

Kip Davies, back at home in country Tasmania Is it true you are a loner? You prefer animals over people?: I have been accused of that, and I have said something like that at times. I love people. Real people. Fair dinkum folks, not crowds where its all about what's the weather like or who's prettier, smarter or richer than someone else. Give me a deep chat over a cuppa till the sun comes up anyday versus an all night party where no-one gets to know anyone.

You're not hinting you want another coffee and we should wind this up are you?: Great idea, I am parched. How about you shut off the machine and we just yack and kick back a bit and forget about work?

Thanks Kip, I'm in for that! And thanks for the interview.: No worries mate, cheers and all me best to everyone out there.
