06/01/2006: "1st Day of Winter Down Under"

Today is the official start of Winter here in Tasmania. Part of the beauty of this great island state of Australia, is the distinctly noticeable seasons. Back on the mainland the changes are more subtle; in Tassie each season is marked by unique weather, colours, atmosphere, and experiences.

Will we get snow this winter? Will the semi-drought conditions break for those of us on the land? Stock up the woodpiles, clean out the flue, and rug up for the exploring ahead for us as the elements do their best to make each Wild, Blue and Free journey a true challenge and adventure! Cheers all!

BRRRRR crazy snow you can keep mate. The only snow I like is what we had here on Christmas day last year. It was 33C but we were had a video conference to Levels in Japan for Christmas day and it snowed there while we were talking so he took the mobile cams outside to give us a look at it snowing.

And would believe it while he was showing us it snowing two Japanese girls walked past in mini skirts. Strike me blue.

But then I suppose if you put them up in the gulf at 45C they'd melt.

Gimme the heat anyday, well up to 50C anyway. I find it a bit warm after that now I'm getting old eh?

With some luck we'll get a real snowfall this year... have heard it can get up to a few feet deep around our mountain and valley home here. Not seen it like that yet, though of late our main waterhole is freezing over thick enough almost to skate on!

Will you get snow this winter? In Tassie mate I'd bet a quid that'd be a given. It snowed in summer when I was there and it's the coldest winter since '65 with temps here hitting -6. BRRRRR crazy

Will you get snow this winter? I'd reckon that was a given in Tassie. The real question would be will you get snow in summer? Cause it did when I was there November before last in Launceston.

We're having the coldest winter since 65 with temps hitting -6 crazy but there's not a drop of moisture in the atmosphere so it's just freezing cold.

So THIS is where Kip has been hiding!
The site looks great mate- polished, artistic.
NO bright yellow backgrounds and presumably less wiring to tinker with.

Love you Kip, wish for all the best for you. Cheers to a new beginning *raises glass*
and to old friends, and to new ones as well
